Is Short-selling legitimate?

Jerome de Lavenere Lussan, managing partner at Laven Partners, siad theresponse by the FSA to Short-selling highlights the huge uncertainty surrounding the current financial crisis.  He said short-selling was legitimate, albeit “malicious”, practice, which had shown benefits for some share holders in the past.  He added: “By imposing an overnight ban, the FSA will hurt legitimate investors and possibly some hedge funds.”  He believes that action taken by the FSA, although unpopular with investment managers, could limit a market free fall that could have much larger economic consequences.
